There had been lots of adventure in the past few years, since the fall of Torchwood-since he'd left, but Jack always found himself back here. This time it was 2014 and he was back in Cardiff. He'd only been there a few minutes now and was trying to figure out where to go. Everywhere was full of memories and he couldn't handle some of them. He wouldn't be going near where the old base had been. He couldn't.
He eventually decided that coffee was probably the best idea for now and headed to the coffee shop they'd all gone to sometimes, on those days where they'd pulled all-nighters or had to be at base early in the morning and no one, not even Ianto had felt like making coffee. There were all new staff-none of them that would recognize him. The owners would, but they were probably retired now, they had both been heading up there in age and wanted to have the freedom to travel. Jack couldn't say he blamed them.
After getting a coffee, he headed back out onto the streets, deciding that it wouldn't do any harm to pop in for a visit with Gwen and Rhys if they were still living where they had been a few years back. It would be nice seeing a familiar face and he wanted to know how things were going for them-wanted to know things were going well.
He'd been walking in that direction for all of five minutes when his eyes fell on someone. He'd thought he was imagining it at first, the man passing him before it could really click in his head, but as soon as it had, he stopped, spinning around.
"Ianto," he spoke under his breath.
But that was impossible, wasn't it? Ianto had died. He knew that all too well. He'f been the one to try and save him for heaven's sake! It didn't keep him from hoping though, and he said the name again, louder, so that if it was him, he'd hear it.
"Ianto!"

people change and promises are broken clouds can move and skies will be wide open The streets of Cardiff were busy with people, mostly tourists mixed in with the familiar locals. Ianto had decided to take a walk, because it was a nice day, or at least that’s what he had told his sister- who happened to still be keeping a very close eye on him even after two years. Really he was looking for something exciting, after the incident with the 456 and the fall of Torchwood he’d been bored. Exciting to Ianto these day wasn’t exactly what you’d was exciting, lately to him exciting was doing dangerous, life threatening things. He wasn’t trying to kill himself, or maybe he was, either way he was almost positive he couldn’t die. Ianto still wasn’t sure exactly how it happened; he suspected it had something to do with Jack trying to save him.
The first time he noticed something was when he accidently cut himself with a knife while cooking. The wound should’ve been bad enough to go to the ER but before he could do anything about it the wound healed. After that he’d tried to hurt himself to see what would happen, with the same results. Ianto wasn’t sure what to think, was it good or bad? He found himself in the same position as Jack. There were so many questions he wanted to ask his old boss, but after the 456 he had disappeared again leaving Gwen and Ianto alone. Of course everyone had thought that Ianto was dead, which might have stopped Jack from leaving, or at least Ianto liked to think it would’ve. Although he couldn’t blame Jack for leaving again - he could barely bring himself to walk near where the Torchwood base had been - he couldn’t help feeling betrayed. Ianto fell in love too easily and got attached to people too fast and he knew it.
Now he was looking for another way to test his immortality, there were many things he hadn’t tried yet. Today he was just walking and hoping to find something to try without drawing too much attention. Considering something water related Ianto crossed the street so he would be walking along the bay. He didn’t even notice a familiar man walk by, coffee in hand, but the smell of the coffee didn’t go unnoticed to Ianto. Memories of Torchwood flooded back to him, Jack, Tosh, Owen, Gwen; he hadn’t even talked to Gwen since the day he “died”, she probably still thought she was dead. The baby would be nearly two by now, he had missed so much. Maybe visiting them wouldn’t be such a good idea, both Gwen and Rhys would have a heart attack and Ianto would have to do a lot of explaining. Not that he knew much about why he was still alive anyway.
The sound of his name being called dragged him from his thoughts; the voice was familiar and American. Ianto froze dead in his tracks; a chill ran down his spine, there was only one person it could be, Jack Harkness. Ianto gulped and turned around to face the man calling his name almost dreading seeing him again, at the same time he felt excited too. He was sure his eyes weren’t betraying him; there stood a tall man with dark hair wearing that military style great coat Ianto had loved the minute he laid his eyes on it. ”Jack?” He replied quietly, voice almost catching in his throat. Ianto didn’t even realize it but he had started to walk towards Jack who was standing only about two feet away from him. TAGGED! Jack.LYRICS ! Holy shit.
Jack had seriously expected no answer, no sign of acknowledgement other than those looking to see just what had him yelling like some sort of madman. He was a madman, though. Ianto was dead, had been for a good long while now, and Jack knew he was crazy to think even for a second that he'd seen him.
He had never expected it to be Ianto.
The man turned around, though, and as soon as Jack saw that familiar face, he froze. What was he supposed to do? Hug him? Smile at him? Run? That seemed like the best option because he was scared, he was so scared. But his body seemed to have other plans because it was already moving forward, arms going around Ianto, pulling him into a hug and holding on tightly. If he let go, he would find that he'd only been imagining it, or worse, that he was hugging some stranger with Ianto's face.
But no, he'd heard his name being said, though quietly, and couldn't help pulling back, grabbing Ianto's face in his hands and kissing him hard on the lips, seeking out those old feelings, but they weren't nearly as strong. With so many years gone past, he'd already moved on because it was what he had to do. Still, it was nice. Familiar. And he liked that.
"This is impossible," He muttered, pulling the other man back into the bone-crushing hug, ignoring the looks they were getting. "You're dead. I-I tried to save you, but there was nothing I could do. You're dead," he kept saying, seeming to try and convince himself just as much as he was trying to convince Ianto. He pulled back finally, rubbing at his forehead a little, trying to keep from getting emotional about this. Shock, excitement... that was one thing. But getting teary-eyed right now was not acceptable. "How have you been?" he asked instead. "What have you been doing? You look good, Ianto."[/blockquote]

people change and promises are broken clouds can move and skies will be wide open Before Ianto knew what was happening he was engulfed in Jacks arms, being crushed to death, but he didn’t care. He hugged Jack back just as hard, never wanting to let go. If he did he was afraid Jack would disappear for the third time, maybe even the last time. “Jack, I can’t………” he started just as quietly as the first time, before he could finish Jack was kissing him, still crushing him but instead this time it was with his lips. Ianto felt himself melt himself melt into the other man as he kissed back. He brushed his fingers up Jack’s neck and continued until he found his hair where he wound his fingers. The kiss was full of emotion on both sides and on Ianto’s side it was need too. If people hadn’t been staring before they were now. Still, he didn’t care.
Jack pulled away and Ianto reluctantly did the same lowering his eyes because he didn’t want to see the look on Jack face. He was afraid of getting to emotional and too attached again, he hadn’t learned his lesson the first time, but the second time it sunk in. Jack never stayed very long, never settled down, and he always moved on, no exceptions. He didn’t have to keep his gaze down for very long because he was pulled back into another hug.
Ianto needed to tell Jack what he had tried say to before, Ianto pulled away as a string of "This is impossible, you should be dead" and many other things came pouring out from Jack. Sighing and giving him a small smile as Ianto gently took Jack’s hand and brought it up and pressed it to his neck so Jack could feel his pulse. Ianto finally got up the courage to look him in the eyes, “I’m alive, see there’s a pulse.” He confirmed, gently dropping Jack’s hand. He drew in a deep breath preparing himself, “I need to tell you something,” he started slowly. Not knowing how Jack would react made Ianto nervous, he knew he should be nervous but he couldn’t help it. “I cant die, or get hurt, it all heals just like you do.” He paused again, but he wasn’t scared or nervous any more, he had been dying to tell someone about this ever since he found out. And he needed answers too, “Jack, I need answers, I need to know how this happened. Will I age or not, is this permanent? Please if you can tell me anything….” He was talking fast now, almost begging and he probably sounded like pathetic helpless idiot.
Hopefully no one walking by had heard any of their conversation, they would either think the two of them crazy or take them seriously and go around telling everyone. Ianto felt like there was a huge weight lifted off his chest and as soon as he got some answers out of Jack he was sure his life would be as normal as possible again. Maybe he could think about something else for a change and work on getting Rhiannon to let him out of her sight.

Jack's mind was so occupied with the thought that Ianto was alive that his mind barely registered anything else the man was saying. He lifted his hand again, placing it back on Ianto's neck, feeling the pulse again, as thought he couldn't believe what he was feeling. He almost didn't. When his mind finally caught up with Ianto's words, his lips parted slightly, but that was the only indication that he'd heard at first. His eyes scanned Ianto's face, desperately searching for some sign that this was a joke or that he was just plain lying. Because this couldn't be real. Maybe it was even a dream or a nightmare, but he knew it wasn't.
Swallowing heavily, he pulled his hand away licking his lips and blinking back tears, obviously upset. It wasn't that Ianto was back. He was so happy to see him alive and well, but knowing that he would have to live through years and years of loving and losing people. Knowing he would have to do it over and over again... that was hard. He wouldn't wish his fate on anyone. And what was worse was that he didn't have the answers Ianto needed. They were the same ones he was looking for himself.
"I-I'm sorry, Ianto, I-" he started, pausing to take a shaky breath, and he shook his head a little in disbelief. "I don't have the answers you're looking for. I age, yes, but it's very slowly and I don't know if it's permanent. I wish I could tell you more, Ianto, but I can't. I'm just-I'm really, really sorry. I would never wish this on anyone, especially you," he breathed, eyes welling up with tears that he tried blinking back again but it only seemed to conjure up more of them and he felt a couple trickle down his cheeks, not bothering to wipe them away. "This is all my fault," he whispered. He'd been so stupid.
