Something didn't feel right that day. Rhys wasn't around this morning to see her off and usually he was. She wondered what was so important with work that he had to leave before she did. She got out of bed, showered and changed into jeans and a blue shirt. Rhys had left her coffee and some breakfast and she ate a little bit and had two cups before grabbing a leather jacket. Gwen was about to leave her flat when she noticed something on the ground. Something that hadn't been there before and shouldn't be there now.
It was a small device. She didn't know what it did, what it was, who it belonged to. All she knew was that it shouldn't be in her flat. She picked it up and examined it closely. Gwen had to take it into Torchwood because she was almost positive that it was alien. She wasn't sure if it would be safe to have it in the same car with her, but it also wouldn't be safe to have in the same house with her either and the quicker she got it to Torchwood, the better. Gwen called the hub as she was leaving the apartment to let them know that she had found something in her apartment and was bringing it in.
As she drove, she wondered about Rhys. He should be at work, but what if something happened to him? Maybe that was why he wasn't there when she got up. The same species that broke into her apartment and left this object could've taken him. Gwen was going to have to call him, make sure that he was really at work and everything was okay. She made it to the hub and parked her car. Grabbing the object, she got out and headed inside.
((Note: She is outside the hub, so anyone can join in. The object in question I've decided was of Brudyac origin. It's a device they put into the spine of humans to control them.))

You'll always find us out too much, oh we're so pretty, oh so pretty, we're vacant and now we don't care!
Where was it? She had found it a few moments ago and now it was bleeding gone. Growling very literally at the box in her hand she turned and hit it against the closest will with some force but not enough to shatter the stupid thing. “Come on!” Valkyri snapped as she shook it again before deciding that it was well and truly broken and she was going to have to find this thing using her excellent powers of detection, fantastic people skills and her ability to talk her way out of almost any situation. Not. “Ugh I am so an inclined plane wrapped helically around a cylindrical axis.” In other words – screwed.
It couldn't have been far, seriously though it couldn't have gone that far. She had got so damned close and then kablam life was going to screw her over and over and over again. Turning back to said wall she leaned against her, her forehead against the cool stone of the building as it spitted with rain and she let her mind wonder to just how bad it would get if that thing got in to the wrong hands. After all you know, controlling the entire population of a planet was going to be a fun thing for the race that invented it...not so great for the humans and to be truthful Valkyri kinda liked humans. They were sweet, innocent and here she could pretty much act like a drunken twat on a Friday night and she fit in. It was great. Who would want to ruin that?
There was another bleep, the device in her hand decided to spring in to life and she took that as her cue to start running. It was Karma that brought this wonderful happenstance around, it must have been, really must have been because nothing else would explain that stroke of good luck. Truth was she was going to tell anyone who asked to hear this story that she ran the entire way but she didn't. She got in a cab, told the driver; 'oh I don't know the name but I can direct you.' As she followed the tracker and then got out on the other end. All in all a rather calm and non energetic chase. Truth was she didn't want to break a sweat. Teenagers never changed where ever you went in the universe, they all looked for the easiest hassle free way to get something done. Always.
Stuffing the device in to her back pocket she wondered what to do next, she had only a few seconds to make the choice and she made hers. It involved offering some kid ten quid for his skateboard and taking it for a ride. Straight in to a woman. Valkyri hit the floor, almost not flinching at the fact she might have seriously hurt herself. The concept of danger didn't exist in her head. All she knew was she was now laid on her back looking up at the sky. This had better work. Karma had better be on her side today.

Gwen didn't know what the object was or who had left it and why it had been in her flat, but if Rhys had been around when the aliens had been there, it really didn't look good for him. He could be hurt somewhere, possibly on the verge of dying. She wished he had been there when she'd gotten up. At least then she would've known if he was okay or not. Gwen took out her mobile and tried calling him, but got no answer.
This wasn't a good thing. An alien in her home, leaving an object behind and Rhys gone and not answering his calls. There was a good chance he was just working, but she wasn't going to stop worrying about him until she knew for sure. As she was heading into the hub, Gwen was knocked to the ground and the object fell out of her hand. There was another young woman on the ground too. "Are you okay?" she asked, standing up.
Looking at the skateboard, she said, "Might be wise to pay attention to where you're going. You could get hurt if you don't." Turning her attention away from the skateboard and the woman, Gwen looked around for the object. It was around there somewhere. It couldn't have gone too far and she really needed to find it before the woman stumbled upon it. She didn't want to involve an innocent human in something that could be dangerous.

You'll always find us out too much, oh we're so pretty, oh so pretty, we're vacant and now we don't care!
The concrete was surprisingly hard, she hadn't expected the fall to hurt that much but there were other things that had to be taken care of. She saw the small device tumble across the ground. She reached out, hand grabbing it in one swift moment and then she paused, trying to make sure no one had spotted her. For a few moments she thought that she had got away with it, it looked like it, she wanted to cheer. That had been a lot easier than she thought, hell it had been freaking easy as hell sure she had sacrificed comfort for a few moments but she had just averted a possible disaster. Epic. Win. “Owww.” Valkyri said standing up and stuffing her hands in to her pockets, both looked less suspicious and it just made her look like a moody teenager – which was what she was going for.
“I'm fine are you okay?” The words fell from her lips as she bent over again to pick up her skateboard, she planned on making a fast exit off and she sure as hell planned on destroying this thing the moment she got back to her TARDIS. It shouldn't be in anyones hands let alone humans. Sure she loved earth and she loved humans, there was something so loving and quirky about them but lets face it collectively they were idiots sometimes. How can a race that made it to the moon still be so bloody idiotic sometimes? Still in all seriousness she would have taken it from the hand of any race it wasn't just humans. Valkyri hated the very idea of free will being taken from people, it was an idealogical belief, it was something that she hated in the very being of her soul. It was nothing more than just blatantly wrong.
There was a sheepish smile as she scratched her cheek before biting her lip. “Sorry I was away in my own world...” Not true, “I get distracted easily.” Now that was true. She dropped the skateboard back on to the ground and placed one foot on it getting ready to make her escape before the woman realised what she had done. “Anyway, take care dude.” Valkyri said with a wave and a smile before she started off, a push off and she was making her way across the bayside. It was fantastic how you got away with stuff like that, sometimes it was too easy though, there was the awareness in the back of her head that at any second the woman was going to realise exactly what she had done and come screaming after her or something. At least she hoped she managed to get far enough away that she couldn't catch up.
