It was rectangular and plastic and not of this Earth. Sarah Jane had found it during an investigation into some mysterious lights coming from the house next to hers. She hadn't been able to figure out what those lights were. Every time she went in there and scanned, it was a weak trace that she couldn't identify. There was no aliens in there at all. There was nothing in there. And the owners had disappeared without a trace. That had been what got Sarah Jane's attention in the house. The lights wouldn't have bothered if she hadn't known the old couple disappearing a few days before the lights started appearing. Everyone figured they had moved out and maybe they did. She didn't know enough to say for sure if it was foul play or not. For all she knew, the aliens could be good ones. Just needing a place to fix their ship or something.
She was in her attic, Mr. Smith scanning the object in question to give her some information on it. The Doctor had given her a watch after he fixed K-9, but that watch could only detect aliens and couldn't tell her much more than their species. The sonic lipstick, another gift from her old friend, hadn't been any good with it either. Mr. Smith had to be able to identify it and tell her exactly what it is, what it does and maybe even what species it belongs to. Sarah Jane believed he could do it. He knows just about everything about aliens and alien objects. Considering he was an alien himself and he had access to every (or just about) computer system in the world.
The scanning seemed to be taken awhile. She wanted to know what that was, but she could be patient. Maybe he was having trouble finding it within his system or within other computer systems. Sarah Jane hoped she would be able to get something on it though. She needed to know what it was.
((Sorry, it's not the best.))

He'd just been moving through open space, on his own for now, he did that occasionally, Amy and Rory busy. He was just floating along trying to think of where to go, sometimes it was busy sometimes... not so much. When suddenly the TARDIS let out a sound, kind of like a groan and then started shooting off with him even touching anything! He rushed around and managed to keep her stabilized and even managed to get the scanner working, the time and date flashing on the screen.
June 5th 2012, LONDON.
Woo, it had been a while. He grabbed on for his life as his TARDIS took him where ever she felt like it. Ever since their talk she'd been doing this more and more and he had to admit it was pretty exciting not knowing.
When the TARDIS fell still and everything was silent, the Doctor check himself and looked around outside with the scanner before he pushed it back up and headed down the ramp to the doors. Pulling them opened he was surprised to find himself-in someones garden. He was good at that, wasn't he? Stumbling out of the TARDIS and onto the front yard, the Doctor looked around, walking up to the closest street sign to check. Bannerman Road. He then checked the letterbox. Number 13. Why had the TARDIS brought him here? Wait a minute. He was pretty sure he recognized this place.
"Sarah Jane?" he muttered to himself, eyes widening a little. What was with all these meeting with people from the past, it was disconcerting. Not to mention a little exciting... he wobbled a little and stood by his trusty TARDIS, not really sure if it would be rude of him to go and visit this late and he started looking around for signs of danger. The TARDIS had picked up an alien object of sorts and even though the Doctor had no idea what it was, he was hoping it was nothing that would put Sarah in any trouble.

A puzzle box! She had one of those once before. It had been given to her by the Verron Soothsayer and it helped save her from The Trickster. That hadn't looked like this though. That had been smaller, square. Sarah Jane wondered if this box was the same as that and maybe that Verron Soothsayer was the one that left it behind. Well, if so, then the box wasn't dangerous, but until she knew for sure where it had come from, it needed to be treated as a dangerous object. He was able to tell her that it was a puzzle box, but nothing more than that, which made her think that it wasn't the soothsayer. It wasn't so unusual for him not to be able to pinpoint the species. His alien knowledge was extensive, but it was also incomplete. It could be a species he has no information on. But he was analyzing it again, so it was a good chance he could come up with it this time.
As she was waiting, she heard an all too familiar noise. A noise she had heard so many times before. The noise of the TARDIS landing. He was here. Sarah Jane left the attic, went downstairs and walked outside and there was the TARDIS in her garden. But the man standing next to it didn't look familiar at all. Of course, Sarah Jane figured the last time she had seen him he had regenerated, so she wouldn't have recognized him. She walked over to him.
The watch he had given her was strapped to her wrist and it was picking up a Time Lord. It had to be him. It had to be The Doctor. She wondered why he was here. If something had been happening, Mr. Smith would've stopped analyzing the box to tell her. Maybe he was here for the box. He could've figured something about it before Mr. Smith. "Doctor?" Sarah asked, a little uncertainly.

Spinning on his heel to face her, the Doctor's face brightened and he jumped forwards and hugged her. "My Sarah Jane," he told her affectionately, extremely pleased to be seeing her again, he was sure he wouldn't. But, it seemed this universe was getting smaller and smaller.... The Doctor paused as that thought occurred to him and he seriously considered the idea, the science of it, before shaking it off. That was impossible. And how silly of our Doctor. He pulled back far enough to look at her and he quirked a playful brow. "Still looking smashing," he grinning in a devious sort of manner before he was clearing his throat, looking just a little bashful. "Oh, yes. New face, again. Never did learn the first time, or the second or other 10 times..." he said all in one breath. "Too many enemies."
"Speaking of which," he held a finger up and then pointed at her. "Have you got something for me? Or am I early?" he asked, looking her up and down as he tried to decide, forehead scrunched up and the man plucking at his bow tie. "I was so worried I was rematerialized in your house, that would of been rude. It wasn't me her decided..." he told her before pointing at the TARDIS. "..it was her. Caught onto something, guess she was curious..." he looked puzzled and smug all at the same time.
"Is it late?" he looked around and made a guilty face because it was dark and this regeneration was a bit of a worry-wart, and this time... he was worrying about the fact he could of woke her up. But Pond was always in her nightie, Sarah Jane was fully dressed. "Well then, come on, show me, my Sarah Jane, show me what you've got."

He looked so young. Barely older than Rani and Clyde. He was still her doctor, though, and she couldn't have been happier to see him. Sarah Jane returned his hug and smiled at his comment about never learning. She couldn't see him ever learning. That would require to stop saving the world and Earth needed to be saved what with all the aliens coming down. And there was only so much she could do. "Never learning isn't a bad thing. If I had learned, I would never have gotten Luke. And we've all go enemies, Doctor. I probably have just as much as you." And most of hers was his. Like the Sontarons. Wanting her to pay for him interfering with ATMOS.
Ah, so he was here because of the object. "Yes, there is something. Mr. Smith is analyzing it. So far all I know is that it's a puzzle box of sorts. He's trying to figure out the species." She remembered he had materilized in her house before. Soon after she had accused him of pulling another disappearing act. "It would've been fine. Besides Mr. Smith, I'm alone in the house." Ever since Luke went off to University and he had taken K-9 with him. "But if Rani heard the box, I'm sure we'd have company soon." She glanced across the street, but there was no movement at the Chandra house.
"Yes, but it's fine. I was already awake. And Luke is at University, so he's not around. Follow me, Doctor, it's in the attic." She turned around and led the way into the house and to the attic. "Like I said, all I have so far is that it's a puzzle box. Mr. Smith seems to be having trouble coming up with a species. I suspect it belongs to something not in his databanks. There is quite a few he has no knowledge on." Sarah opened the door to the attic. "Do you know anything about it, Doctor?"

Listening to her with a wide grin on his face, it only faltered as he listened to her tell him about the object she had. Oh so another possible Verron puzzle box was it? They'd never actually found out if they were Verron or not, it was almost possible to tell these days. Verrons were an extremely generous race and had helped him out more than once, Sarah Jane too. He looked a little bashful when she basically said it was okay for him to just park the TARDIS in her home, because she was alone, he gulped a little and gave her a crooked smile, hand fumbling through his hair.
All too soon he was following her into the house, sonic screwdriver still in his hand as he stepped into the attic looking around eagerly, running over to look at some bits and pieces on a table, going through them, looking much like a child on Christmas. Walking over to where it sat by Mr. Smith- picking it up and turning it over in his hand before bringing it to his face and sniffing it, then tentatively licking it, glancing at her from the corner of his eyes and yanking it away. "Well, a lot of the puzzle boxes are Verron in creation, this... is something a little different, gives off a completely different pulse than the other one, it almost feels negative. It's very old. tastes like ages. You probably didn't want me licking that..." He wiped it dramatically over his jacket front.
He made a face and waggled his tongue for a moment before looking thoughtful and face Mr. Smith, knowing it would recognize him despite his regeneration. "Mr. Smith."
"Hello Doctor."
"Ah, you do remember!" The Doctor sounded chuffed, skipping closer and watching the panel open, turning to grin at Sarah joining her side. "AH, it's so fabulous, I wish I had a computer like you Mr. Smith, you're beautiful!" he spluttered as he very quickly made his way back, much like an excited puppy.
"I do not forget, Doctor," the computer quipped and the Doctor laughed.
"I would expect not," he hummed and looked at Sarah Jane before facing Mr. Smith again. "What tests have you done one the puzzle box? What was the reading for Dark Matter?" he asked but the computer didn't respond, making the Doctor look rather baffled. "Mr. Smith? What about the Dark Matter readings?"
"Scanning..."
"He didn't," the Doctor looked pleased that he had thought of something a super computer hadn't, looking rather smug about it as he stood there.

She had already suspected that it wasn't Verron. Mr. Smith would've been able to tell her if it was and it certainly didn't look like a Verron puzzle box, not one that she had seen anyways. A negative feel, which she would never connect with anything Verron, but Sarah knew every species had their bad guys. There could be a rogue bunch running around out there, but then she would've heard if something was causing trouble. So far, things have been pretty quiet.
Sarah Jane knew it wouldn't make much difference that he licked it. Mr. Smith was sharp and would know to ignore any Time Lord DNA left on it from that lick and focus on anything else. She wasn't surprised Mr. Smith knew who he was instantly, even with the regeneration and she knew that if K-9 were around, he would be able to tell right away too. What did surprise her was he hadn't thought to scan for Dark Matter. And Sarah hadn't even thought to ask for the Dark Matter readings.
She thought of the strange lights she saw next door sometimes. It had to do with the box because that was where she found it. Sarah had to know what was hiding there and then see to it that they leave if they were dangerous. She didn't really mind the good aliens hanging around, as they didn't do any harm. "Whatever species left that box has been hiding out next door. The original owners suddenly disappeared without a trace and I've been seeing strange lights coming from the home when nobody should be there. They're strange because they're bright, but they don't illuminate anything. Ever seen something like that before?"

"No, not at all. But, it's a big universe," the Doctor muttered turning it over and over in his hand, thumb dragging down the side of it, trying to find some sort of clip or trigger to open it, being gentle because some alien artifacts just needed the... lightest touch... "Nextdoor you say?" he questioned and pulled out his sonic screwdriver, scanning the item at the same time as Mr Smith and looking at the dark matter readings.
They were definitely a lot higher than a usual artifact and that worried him because that meant that these creatures were probably from a completely different universe, like the boy and his creature and like all the ones River had told him about, he let out an exasperated sound before taking the puzzle back off of Mr Smith. "I'll get this back to you soon," he told him before heading for the door, fearless this one.
"Well? You coming, Sarah-Jane?" he quipped with a little cheeky, and slightly flirty smile before he slipped through the door and started downstairs, eyes fully focused on the puzzle box in his hands. He felt around the entire thing with quick, gentle fingers, the box started to hum and glow lowly as he did. "Aren't you a scrumptious little beauty, oh ho..." he mumbled under his breath, holding it up high and jumping down the last step with vigor. He turned and held his hand out to Sarah-Jane, pulling her along with him, just like the old days.
"Glowing-it's glowing," he told her, showing her as his thumbs continued to stroke and caress, the light getting brighter a light blue light, dim get bright all at the same time. "It could be possible we're dealing with a biolumenescent race," he told her after thinking for a little, reaching out and touching a small lit up crack, the box opening, causing him to stop and stare.
"Well, I'll be... it's a spaceship..." he breathed as he looked inside, pulling out his sonic screwdriver. "One that doesn't seem to be working..." he muttered as he scanned it. "Power, its power cells are low."

This was confusing. She had dealt with confusing before. In fact, a lot that happened was confusing, but she could usually figure it out after awhile. This would be no different, but it would probably take longer than usual to figure it out, even with The Doctor. They hadn't even been able to open it yet and that could be the key to figuring this whole thing out. Though whatever was inside could be dangerous, Sarah knew between the two of them, it could probably be contained before much harm was done.
"Of course," she said, following him out. She didn't know if they could really learn anything new from going next door. The other times she'd been there, she'd only found this box, but maybe there was something she had missed. It was possible. Even with her alien equipment, she was only human and human eyes tend to miss things sometimes.
Sarah Jane kept her eyes on the box as it started glowing. She had never dealt with a bioluminescent race before, but she had heard about them. She wasn't sure of the knowledge Mr. Smith had on them because she had never needed to know anything about them before. Maybe it was incomplete and didn't include this race, which was why he didn't know anything.
She was snapped out of her thoughts when the box opened. A spaceship. So that was why they were there. They were spending time here until their ship could be recharged to take them home. But then, where were the aliens? If they were trying to fix their ship, they should've been with it. Sarah Jane was sure they hadn't been because it had been easy for her to take it. There had been no defenses up. "So maybe they are only here to fix their ship, but then why would they leave it unattended? Can you recharge the power cell?"
